Haverhill Schools Initiative

Meet those who run HSI

Director of Schools Work: Beckie Pickering

Beckie has been working with HSI as the Director of Schools work since October 2006.  She loves seeing young people growing and asking questions.  Since joining HSI she has had a heart for setting up clubs where young people can explore faith through fun.

Beckie moved to Haverhill after spending some time studying for a BA (Hons) Theology at Cliff College and London School of Theology, and having spent a year working with the youth at Purley Baptist Church.  She has been involved in youth work both in churches and schools since she was 16.

In her spare time she is studying for an MA in Evangelism (Emerging Church) with Cliff College, she enjoys travelling, photography and is a qualified SCUBA diver.  She's married to Simon.

Gap year student: Kirsty Ashman.

I’m taking a gap year out with HSI before I hopefully go off to Bible College in September 2010 to study Theology. I’ve lived in Haverhill all my life and I’m really excited about spending the year working with the young people of Haverhill and Clare and helping them make their own decisions about God and faith!

I really hope to make a difference during my gap year, and to spend some time running Youth Alpha in Haverhill’s upper schools as well as learning more about and spreading the word of God. I want to let young people know that Christianity is not something of the past - it’s something that is real, exciting and happening now! In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, karate and playing the saxophone.

Jamie Hall:Graphic Design and Publicity

I've lived in Haverhill for about 5 yrs and work for a local graphics company (which is super handy in terms of being able to produce promo stuff / banners etc). I've a real heart to see the Church and HSI represented in a credible and culturally relevant way, especially to young people. Ultimately we want to work as a team to blow out of the water people's negative preconceptions of God stuff, so that they may be drawn to Him personally and that ultimately He'd receive all the glory.

Sue Levitt:

Sue has recently joined the HSI Exec and also helps out with Castle Hill Rock Solid and Breakout. She's very excited about seeing young people come to know Christ for themselves especially in and around Haverhill.

Sue moved to Haverhill in August 2008. She previously spent a year working at a boarding school in Bath after graduating from Bath University with a Sport and Exercise Science degree. In her spare time Sue enjoys sport, reading and singing.
